Why I'm introducing paid subscriptions

I have blogged as Gentle Creative for six years for free. There has never been a Gentle Creative business. I wrote for the sheer joy of being creative.

However, I have reached a point in my life where I would like to be paid for my creative knowledge, wisdom and experience. I spent a lot of 2021 soul searching on how to achieve that and I was overjoyed when I came across the Substack platform because it offered the opportunity to have paid subscriptions. I am now going to introduce that feature.

Don’t worry, the article that I publish every Friday will remain free and available to everyone. It is important to me that the bulk of what I write is viewable by all who need and enjoy it.

But I will be putting the Monday Accountability (3 for you and 3 to do) discussion thread and the end-of-month GC Insider round-up behind a paywall.

For paid subscribers I will also be introducing a monthly Ask Me Anything zoom call. I’m happy to field questions about writing, the creative process, or life and the universe in general!

The first call will be on Friday 20th May at 6pm UK time (which in the USA is noon Central time or 1pm Eastern).

How much will it cost?

I’m very aware of all the cost-of-living increases so I want to keep the subscription at a low rate. It will be £5 a month or £50 for a year. You will be able to cancel at any time.

Between now and Monday 9th May I am offering an introductory discount of 20% which will make that just £4 a month or £40 a year. If you subscribe now, you’ll have this rate FOREVER – what’s not to love!

There is also an additional annual level, called GC Special Friend, where you can pay what you want above £120. All subscribers at this level will get a free 30 minute coaching session with me.

In the long-term I want to grow both the paid and free audience for Gentle Creative. I’d like it to become a sustainable income. I don’t have anywhere near the number of subscribers for that yet but this is my starting point. Thank you for being part of this beginning.
