This weekend is the official celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – 70 years on the throne! What an achievement and a life devoted to duty.
I thought we should enter into this spirit and celebrate our own achievements.
We’re writers.
We’ve created stuff that didn’t exist before.
We’ve put words onto a blank page that inform, persuade and inspire.
We touch hearts.
In these kinds of newsletters we tend to focus on problems, challenges and how to overcome the negative stuff.
What we need to improve upon.
What we can’t yet do.
How often do we focus on what’s going right, what we’ve already done and what is wonderful about us?
It doesn’t matter where you are in your writing journey, let’s celebrate.
If you’ve written a few blog posts and have a small audience – Hurrah. Well done.
If you’re halfway through your first book and you’ve no idea what its future may hold – Hurrah. Well done.
If you’re on your 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 10th book – Hurrah. Well done.
If you’ve only sold books to your family, your friends and a couple of neighbours – Hurrah. Well done.
If you’ve sold upwards of a few thousand copies or you’re actually making a living from your writing. Hurrah. Well done.
If you’ve got a collection of half-written manuscripts sitting on your hard drive – Hurrah. Well done.
If you’ve been on some writing courses or bought a book about writing, and you’re about to sit down and give it a go – Hurrah. Well done.
How about we spend the next few days focussing on what we have achieved, on what is going well, on what we already have in our lives?
In that spirit I’d like to celebrate two things.
Firstly, I’ve written this newsletter every week since the beginning of the year. I’m very proud of this achievement.
Secondly, two years ago I published my first novel, after twenty years of effort and learning as a writer.
Tales of the Countess is a romantic comedy about being happy in yourself and then you get your man. However, it features handbags that talk – think Sex in the City meets Toy Story.
Here’s what some of the reviews say about it:
“Original (with knobs on), kooky (understatement), heartfelt and laden with humour…” Tangents and Tissues
“It is the epitome of quirky and unorthodox, and takes romcom to a whole other level. I loved it.” Reading Girl Reviews
“…one of the stories that can make you laugh days after you have finished the book.” Sharon Beyond The Books
If you fancy some escapism from the challenges of the news cycle, spiralling prices and life in a post-pandemic world, then please check it out.
You can purchase it on Amazon using the buttons above or from wherever you normally buy books. It might even be available to order in your local library.
Let’s plod gently and jubilantly!!!

I began writing publicly just a few months ago at the age of 60. I'm beyond thrilled with it and the response my newsletter has received. I'm definitely in a celebratory frame of mind. Well done to us all!
I needed to be reminded. Thank you. I can celebrate writing 69 articles for my newsletter and having 87 subscribers. It's a start.
