Hi Cali. I’m catching up with this one very late BUT ALL POWER TO YOU !

I know they setting out on a run is a string of challenges over come and seeing it thay way has allowed me to sustain it. Victory 1- bed to bathroom. Victory 2 - bathroom to kitchen. Victory 3 - kitchen to shoe cabinet. Victory 4 - shoe cabinet to road...

All the very best.

What if I can...combine my passion for running with my passion for writing? What if I go for a generative run, return to my desk and let the writing flow? (NB: this actually happens daily and is often overwhelming).

What if I can is really a nice shift! There were plenty of things I didn’t like about “Atomic Habits”, but I did like the idea of doing a tiny bit at a time. Like the example of the guy who drive to the gym, went in, came back out and left every day for 100 days before he ever did a single exercise. He built confidence in being a guy that goes to the gym first.

I love this! Great, inspiring post! Have you read Murakami’s What We Talk About When we Talk about Running? Excellent writing guide/memoir using running as a literal and figurative comparison. After the 2020 Covid lockdowns I started running and taking it seriously for the first time. I was living in Manhattan and it was very exhausting. I needed a release. At first a mile was draining. Then I did two. I kept at it. I started going several days a week. I hit ten miles one day. Then twelve. Then fifteen. Eventually I walked out my door one day and didn’t come back for five hours. I’d run 28 miles. I still run. It’s fantastic. Substack, like running, has been a profound platform for my writing, too. My subscribers are building. I have two Stacks. ✍️ ✍️✍️

Too often my thinking turns to "I can't." That single shift could open so many doors . As T Van says, it has utility across of areas of life.

My current "what if I can" goal is working my way to a half-marathon. Two friends who are way more accomplished runners than me challenged me to meet them in St. Louis in April. I used C25K eight years ago to get to running three miles, three times a week so now my goal is running a 10K by December 31. I will be up to 4.5 miles this weekend and I'm hoping I make it.

As for writing, I NEED to finish my book this month for a whole host of reasons. I'm ready to put it out into the world, but preparing for that final "publish" is terrifying.
