We Can Be Heroes
For more than one day
We tend to think of heroes as swashbuckling superstars who fearlessly fight off all the baddies and save the people.
But what if we, the ordinary people, are heroes too?
I did a course at the weekend where we talked about “hero energy”.
Being a hero is actually quite simple. It’s about accepting your current reality and having goals.
Heroes try things out. They fail multiple times but learn and adapt with each new attempt to succeed.
Eventually they find a way that works within their current reality.
Swashbuckling heroes from the movies do the same thing. Their attempt to defeat the empire or return the ring or win the heart of the girl has many unforeseen obstacles. They fail many times but they keep going.
If they succeeded in the first couple of attempts then it would be a really short film!
The hard part is accepting “what is”.
It’s much easier to whine about how “this shouldn’t be happening” or “why is this happening?”
That judgement means you spend precious energy fighting reality rather than working with it. It’s not about being fearless. A hero may feel fear but they find courage and do it anyway.
Imagine weaving your desires into reality and gently plodding onwards. You’re probably already doing that.
So recognise that you too are a hero. Pat yourself on the back, celebrate your achievements and keep going.
